Demarcus Dobbs game-ending interception put a mask over one of the worst defensive proformances by the Georgia Bulldogs in some time. Kentucky racked up 226 yards rushing and while the Wildcats had some success to the outside with the triple option, the most alarming concern was the Georgia defense’s almost complete inability to stop the run between the tackles. This inability allowed the Wildcats to convert on 4th and inches twice. Whether it was a QB scramble from freshman QB Randall Cobb or tailback dive play out of the I, it did not matter. Georgia, short of LB Rennie Curran, could not stop the UK rushing attack. It was often frustrating to watch.
Had Matthew Stafford not flat out willed the Georgia football team to victory, Georgia, without a doubt would have lost the game. Stafford put up career numbers throwing 17-27 for 376 yards + 3 TDs. Stafford demonstrated the ability to not only operate inside the pocket but a willingness to use his mobility to move to the outside to find his target. He even got away with pointing where he was going to throw the ball when he directed Knowshon Moreno to keep coming across so he could hit for a completion.(as seen in this photo).
Mohammed Massaquoi had a career day with 9 catches for 181 yards & a TD. After fumbling a nice reception , Massaquoi redeemed himself turning a 15-20 yard gain into a 78 yard reception.
Knowshon Moreno put up another sold effort with 21 carries for 123 yards and 3 TDs.
A.J. Green, while quiet in the first three quarters, caught 2 big catches including the go ahead TD pass, the other catch he leaped to pull in a 42 yard reception.
Ironically, if you didn’t watch the defense, the team played pretty well. The offense racked up a grand total 520 yards of total offense. Passing for 376 and rushing over 150 yards offered a almost opposite of the defenses performance.
